I live in Ukraine. When I withdraw cash using ATM I loose ~5% of money (I don't count $2.45 fee). I can't withdraw USD in Ukraine, only local currency is available.
Is it possible to minimize the percent of money I loose during each withdrawal? May be I can travel to some neighboring country and withdraw money there? Poland or Czech Republic?

The best way to minimize ATM related fees is to choose your ATM carefully. You may be dealing with fees set by the ATM networks and the bank you are withdrawing from, these fees vary from bank to bank. Try to find an ATM with the most favorable terms and use it as often as possible.

We traveled to Ukraine last year and toured in Western Ukraine and Kyiv. My debit card would not work on any ATM's with the matching PLUS symbol in Kyiv, Lviv, Chernvitsi, Yarmeche etc.
