There is a huge security flaw on the Payoneer EMV Card.

I live in Brazil and used my EMV/Chip card for the very first time.

Absolutely nothing is required besides the card, no signature, no PIN, no nothing. Just insert the card and the transaction goes through on any store. I can't even validate the transaction. If someone gets my card they can use it with no restrictions.

I sent an e-mail to support but no answer.

Does somebody can help me with this issue ? Is there anyway we can get a Chip card with PIN like every standard card ?

    Thanks,

    Erico

    Hi Erico,

This is not a security issue with the card. The card is an EMV card, and will require EMV transaction for any terminal that supports it.

However if the store or terminal does not support EMV, you will still be able to pay via the older "swipe" transaction method. Are you sure this merchant simply did not support EMV?

    Hi Nissim,

    Thanks for your answer.

I'm sure merchants support EMV, it's pretty standard here. Simply inserts the payoneer card into the terminal (No swipe) and transactions are accepted automatically.

Regardless, with or without support, the card can be used without any validation.

today 09/07/2015, and still not an answer about why the Payoneer cards in Brazil don't request PIN code in transactions...I have the same issue, in Colombia the card used to work without problems, and after I come here to Brazil, it just now doesn't ask me for the PIN code again....it's a security issue with the card...if some here lost the payoneer card, can say good bye to the funds in the account. (also in Colombia it works as a normal debit card, here in Brazil, only works using it as a credit card, and it has a withdrawal limit of BRL$400 -about usd$120- in ATM's per day) :| :( :'( :o

    Hello,

I am glad I found this topic. I've got a somewhat reverse problem!
I very recently received a Payoneer Card without a chip. Living in Europe, I had never seen a credit card without a chip before. When I went to the local shop for groceries the other day, their card reader was not able to read my card, because it did not have a chip.
For the moment, I am only able to use my card online with sites that do not use the Ogone verification service.
A lot of European webshops are currently switching to a system that requires creditcard users to use a cardreader and a creditcard with a chip.

I find that in South Africa the chip and pin Payoneer card can be used without the PIN being requested and with no signature needed.

Dip the card, no verification, the money is gone.

    For example:
    - filling up with gas at the petrol station, no PIN needed, no signature requested
    - in major grocery chain A, no PIN needed, no signature requested
    But:
    - in major grocery chain B, signature was requested
    - in a small local shop, PIN was requested

This seems totally inconsistent and extremely worrying. Should the card be stolen - which is always a distinct possibility here - then all will be lost.

Can someone FROM PAYONEER explain how we can ensure that the PIN is ALWAYS needed before the transaction is accepted?

    Thank you

Nice to see this topic is still alive. :)

I feel that Payoneer does not really understand what we are trying to explain: all over the world (except USA maybe), the EMV chip has pin code. And the shops excpect the same.

My experience after I started this tread 1.5 years ago is still mostly positive.

    - Most shops accept the chip, without any PIN - sometimes they ask for signature, sometimes not. I always have to explain that the card is without PIN, they look at me like I am an alien. This is not normal here - all my other cards (10+) has a PIN. Many times i just put in the card and pay, no pin and no questions asked. Imagine if the card was lost...

    - 2 of 3 gasoline stations deny my card now, just saying "denied at central" or something, I suspect it has to do with the chip/pin problem. Number 3 works. Still.

    - Never had problems in any ATM, both in Norway and Brazil. Withdrew 800 BRL many times. Payoneer even contacted me and asked if I was using the card in Brazil, very positive. And I am always asked for PIN in the ATM's. Might be becuse it is using the swipe stripe? Then it is not secure at all, the stripe can be copied. Just speculations the last one... I am not sure. But if the PIN was at the chip, it would be required in the shops also?

I still would like PIN on the chip to make it work like all my other cards. But it is OK 99% of the time working like it is and I am happy and can use the card. For now.... :)

There is only a slight difference between EMV chip cards and magnetic strip cards. The EMV chip cards trumps the magnetic strip by providing an added layer of security of your information. For example, if a skimming device was used to compromise your card details, you can easily protect your card by just switching your PIN code (although if it was me I would just order a new card).

EMV chip cards are also harder to duplicate because of the amount of information that is stored on the chip. In essence making the card more secure.

In regards to ATM stations, you will always need to enter your PIN code to withdraw your funds. This is a must and I doubt any bank will try to change this anytime soon.

In regards to using your card for only debit purchases and not credit, there aren't many card providers out there that enforce this. In addition, most merchants prefer to just swipe the card as credit as they have grown accustomed too over the years. While in some countries EMV chip is common practice, other countries aren't as quick to act by following the same line of service.

While I am not expert to why the United States and other countries are slow to switch to EMV, one can assume that companies don't wish to spend the money on replacing the current systems they have in place, or as I have read on one article back in the day, the merchants are waiting for the card companies to initiate the switch to EMV.

I also have the same issue (an european country). At ATM I am being asked for PIN, at menchant store, when using POS the transactions are accepted automatically, not being asked for a PIN, ID and most of the time, not even a signature.

Even though debit cards have been around for a while, the idea behind a debit charge is mainly when the user wishes to make a cashback withdrawal in addition to the purchase. This is when you are asked to provide a PIN. Additionally, PIN transactions allow a faster transaction process when dealing with prepaid/debit cards.

Credit swipes will always be available for all types of cards in order to make quick purchases. This also means that it can take a bit more time for a transaction to be posted on your transaction history.

You mean swipe, like using the magnet stripe?

That is not used anymore here in Norway, I always have to insert the card in the chip slot. The magnetic swipe slot is not even present on many of the new terminals.

Hope you see that I do not mean to be negative! I myself am very happy with the services Payoneer gives, being able to get paid from companies all over the world.

It just feels (a little bit) awkward being asked why there is no pin on my card, what is wrong with the card, every time the feeling like I am doing something suspisious.

It makes me use it less than I would if it behaved like a "normal" card over here. Yes, even my DEBIT card from my bank (need balance on the account to be used) has a pin.

You are surely living in a different world. But to repeat, I am not negative and the Payoneer is accepted virtually everywhere I have tried.

I am just trying to inform you about the small annoyance it is to sometimes be asked silly questions and the supisious feeling every time the card is used because is not behaving like a "normal" card over here.

And of course I worry about the security issue if the card is lost... that would be bad! I have bougth stuff like 2 iPhone 6 and an iPad without using pin, any ID and any signing; just insert the card, press ok, pronto.

    Still 90% satisfied.

    Happy new year!

When I say credit swipes, I mean when the merchant charges the card as a credit transaction, regardless if it is a credit or debit card.
Any feedback is good feed in regards to these types of questions =)

While we have made a large transition to EMV chip cards, it is not yet supported by the majority of our services. Some of the websites we work with don't have the option to switch to the chip card yet. We are constantly working on changing this so all our users in the future have the chip option. I recommend you contact our support center as it is possible that you will have the option to receive a chip card to replace your current one.

If you do, they will replace your card for you for no additional cost.

Hello, I think I have the same issue, but to make the question clear, let me explain: I own a Payoneer card, and a standard credit card from my local bank.
Basically, when I use it to a merchant using a POS:
    - with my standard credit card, I'm always asked to enter the PIN code
    - using the Payoneer card, sometime I'm asked for a signature, and sometimes nothing!

Can I do something to be able to protect my card with a PIN code ?
I think that the current system is unsecure so I avoid to put high amount of money in it...

That decision is associated more with Mastercard and the merchant. Obviously the world is making process in pushing forward to make card usage more secure however unfortuantely it is a slow process and implementing this can cause problems.

If a merchant supports the use of a debit card than you can opt for the debit transaction for the funds to be deducted, however they always posses the option to run the card as credit should they choose too.

In addition, online purchases don't require you to put the PIN (that's why you have the CVV), so preventing online transactions or demanding that a transaction can only be done with the use of a PIN is something that at the current day and age we are very far from achieving, especially when dealing with international cards which is what we provide.

If you have the option to withdraw the money to your bank with Payoneer and your bank card inforces the PIN usage in your country, this would be something I would highly recommend for someone who as security concious as yourself. The benefits of having one less card in your wallet and running all your money through your bank can add a better layer of control, security and management to the money you possess.

I received my new card to replace old one, before I could withdraw and also swipe in any store, just passing it as credit,

now I can still withdraw from ATM but it will bounce when swiping because it asks for a pin, only once it allowed me to put the last 4 digits .
It depends on the store or there's a solution?

    Thanks

Have Payoneer still not introduced a proper CHIP AND PIN card?? Its all very well saying 'you can still sign for the transaction' but here in England you can't. Nearly all the retailers now will not accept a signature even with ID! You need to have a pin. This rendors the card useless unless you want to withdraw cash (which I do not want to do with the fees)
Any idea if there is going to be a chip and pin card available to order??

Thankfully it still works in Norway but getting strange looks every time the system asks for signature. Knock wood, not a single transactions has been declined yet.

Ended up changing to bank transfer for most of my sponsors, so there is not so much money in the card anymore. Using it online for the most.

Payoneer should not forget the psychology in all this, when we get a bad feeling every time we want to use the card it is not good for their brand.

The 4 digit pin is the secret pin that you can assign to your card and use it in stores and at atm to withdraw money from your Payoneer account or in other words, it's just a password for your ATM card.

To assign a four-digit pin to your card, just log into your Payoneer account and follow all the instructions.
