Card compromised in Brazil - atm skimming, credit card fraud

Hello,

So I used my card in Brazil at two hsbc airport ATMS (thought airport atms were safe), only to find 17 transactions made to it overnight, it was likely cloned at one of these atms.

I lost around 1700 usd and have to pay to get a new card.

This is a terrible experience, I was told to filled 17 forms one for each transaction, and that it could take 90 days to get my money back.

Was any payoneer member victim of credit card fraud ? Were you able to get your money back ?

    Hey there!

    rdew!

I'm really sorry to hear that man. I have had the same issue happen to close friends of mine and it wasn't an easy process. Yet there is a difference in cards that are issued by Payoneer and the usual commercial/regular credit cards that are issued by lines of credit and merchants which all have contracts that are insured, hence making it easier for us to get out money back after unauthorized charges.

From what I have seen with other members having these same issues is that you will have to wait the 90 days and from other cases, I have seen that Payoneer only refunds close to 50% of the funds that were lost. IT could be that you will have a different situation and I ask you to please let us know and keep us updated how your case is handled.

For your reference, here are two threads from previous issues that you can go over, get some ideas and eventually contact them with better and well prepared questions to easy on the matter or case. Unfortunately the forum wont be able to give you official support on the matter as it is a very delicate and sensitive situation and they will provide information if needed, but will advise you to keep contact with their support team through phone and by email or the tickets you have opened already.

    Hi, thanks for your message.

First I had to fill in and scan a lot of forms, one for each transaction (22 forms in my case) then wait for a reply. After about two weeks I had a reply that my case was filed, and that starting now i had to wait 90 days.

After three months / 90 days, I asked again about the status of the case, a week later I received a reply saying that it was decided to refund me 50% of the amount stolen.

To get the refund I had to sign a document stating that I give up any right to file a lawsuit against payoneer, then finally a week later I got credited on my account 50% of the amount.

Conclusion, If this happens to you, it will take a lot of forms, about 4 months, to get refunded half of the money you get skimmed for.

Payoneer card are branded mastercard, a friend of mine working at a normal bank told me that mastercard covers this, and they refund either 0% or 100%, they do not refund the banks half of the money in these cases, and it is almost instant.

My impression is that payoneer keeps half of the refund and make you wait three months in hopes that you will forget about it.

The whole experience and communication I received certainly makes payoneer look shady.
