Like the Internet itself, affiliate marketing has come a long way. As veteran affiliate marketer Rae Hoffman (of Sugarrae.com fame) points out, the original affiliate sites weren’t designed to deliver high-value content. Affiliates built websites to create a bridge between consumers and products (or brands), and the model worked for many years.
However, it’s 2016 and the Internet landscape has changed considerably. Companies generate their own content, which means they’re cutting out affiliates and generating their own sales. Furthermore, Google has increased its standards for ranking content in the SERPs (search engine results pages). Low-quality content sinks to the bottom of the pile.
With all this in mind, does affiliate marketing have a future in 2016 and beyond?
