card security

I purchased something online and the merchant is asking for a photo of my card for security purposes. They say I can block out the first 8 digits of the card. So the last 8 digits of my card will be visible. Is this okay?

Hi, please note, for security reasons some merchants may ask for card's last digits. We suggest that you please provide them only last for 4 digits and if there will be an issue please follow up with us.

I went ahead and sent them the scanned copy. I left only the last 4 digits visible, and they approved the purchase.
    Thank you very much, Rita.

I absolutely agree with this.  Last 4 digits are the only ones he should need. that and the security code on the back - no other numbers!
